Game on

It has been a while since I’ve last communicated.  This blog thing just doesn’t really fit in my general way of doing things but I wanted to put up a flare indicating I’m not dead.

Nail made a blog post that kind of turned a light bulb on my head.  Seems we’re both on similar directions for entertainment w/o any kind of conversation.

Magic has also lost it’s alure and I’m half tempted to just sell or trade in my cards as I don’t really get that same kind of pull I used it (plus it gets pricey buying new cards for essentially the same game).

For Christmas, my wife and I decided we needed to do some activities that let us reconnect and engage in some good fun.  The trouble is we can’t do much impromptu stuff as it involved baby sitting etc so the idea I came up with for Christmas was to try out some board games.

So we got Bohnanza, Ingenious and Settlers of Catan for a start.  We’ve since added Ticket to Ride Europe, Pandemic and Wasabi (YYLAN has blogged that he has this too!  Small world!).  We’ve recently just got Tobago and have played it once – nice game.  I think a few more sessions will improve the game to be a little more cut throat (like Ticket to Ride is now that my wife can kick my butt).

Overall, the board game idea has proven quite good and is nice since we can get a game in when our daughter goes to bed.  It’s a purely social activity completely unplugged and is super nice with a cup of tea.

Needless to say, boardgamegeek.com is starting to be a real problem as there are too many games out there.

  1. You Look Like A Nail says:

Try Dominion. The ability to adjust the type of game, level of interaction etc. by adjusting the cards you use gives it a huge range in terms of play style and competitiveness, and keeps it from getting stale.

Better with more people but quite playable with just two.

And also, BGG is the work of the devil.
